Our Reptile Collection:

Over the past several years Stalder Exotics has teamed up with friend and fellow herp enthusiast Ethan Moulden of Slater, Iowa in a joint venture to build a collection of reptiles that we are very excited about.

Ethan and I believe in obtaining animals from the very best breeders, raising our potential breeding stock from babies whenever possible and handling the animals as they grow to create a breeding colony that we “know”, and that are tractable.  This allows us (mostly Ethan) to go about feeding and cage cleaning with ease and safety.  As our animals grow, and many will reach enormous size, we should be able to continue to handle and move them without stress on them or us, and that’s good for everyone.

Our collection incorporates pairs and multiples of several species that form an eclectic group at very least.  We have chosen species from around the world that have attracted our attention and should prove to be productive in the near future.  It is impossible to say which we are more excited about.  Although we each have our favorites, we look forward to success with all of our animals and hope to have our first real chance at producing baby boas and pythons this breeding season.  Our animals receive the best care possible, are quite healthy and have grown and surpassed the minimum age and size needed for successful breeding.  Our fingers are crossed!

Check back and visit our Reptiles In Iowa page and watch for “new arrivals” in the near future!

Most importantly I need to extend a GREAT deal of thanks to Ethan’s wife Chris.  It is her support and undying patience that allows this project to exist and grow.  Sometimes she is so excited about a new pair of pythons that she can hardly speak.  Such enthusiasm!  Thanks Chris!

2005 Snake Hunt

Our Rattlesnake hunt was a HUGE success this year!   in one day, we found 18 Timber Rattlesnakes, 6 Prairie Ringneck Snakes, 8 Yellow Bellied Racers, 2 Eastern Milksnakes, and 2 Red-sided Garter Snakes.  A total of 36 snakes!  Not a bad day.  We took photos and and data and then  left them alone.

One of the Rattlesnakes we captured (actually that Ethan grabbed) was a recapture from last year, all the others were first timers.    Snakes didn't get us, but the sun did.

WE had a GREAT  day!
